Have you ever participated in a Block of the Month (BOM)? They are FUN and a great way to strengthen your skills or build new ones. Our BOM will kickoff at our September 15th general meeting. You will be introduced to the block and given a pattern/instructions to make it - then you will have an entire month to work on it in order to bring it back at the next month's general meeting. You can utilize our sew day as an opportunity to work on it, or receive help if you need any.
Every month someone will volunteer to lead the following month's BOM. That person will then get to choose the block and sew an example to bring when they introduce it. They will provide the group with instructions for making the block and any colors that it needs to be specifically made in... then the group will create their blocks and bring them the following month -- then, the person who intro'd the block will be allowed to take home all of the finished blocks to use in a quilt design of their own.
This makes volunteering to intro the BOM a thing that would definitely be worth your while huh? Just think - you will receive enough finished blocks to have a great start to a quilt!
You don't know where to look for blocks to intro, especially ones that have instructions? No worries! There are lots of places on the net with blocks to choose from. Why don't you try checking out Sew Mama Sew or do a search on Pinterest... I think once you start looking around, you will find loads of things that are just waiting to be chosen!
So don't forget to volunteer to lead the BOM at an upcoming meeting and get ready to take home all of those beautiful finished blocks!
Y'all might check out OK modern quilt guild, they had a totally awesome BOM last year. It really inspired me to break out of my slump & go modern
