Nicolle received a note from her Canadian mug rug recipient - how cool is that?! "Thank you for the mug rug! I received it at our January meeting. When I got home and showed it to my husband, he claimed it. -- Jean" I went over to their Facebook page and left a message pointing them to our photo album with pictures of us all holding up our mug rugs. I think that when we send off the next batch to Brisbane Australia, we should each put a short note with our email on it in case someone would like to reply. We are newbies, we are learning! :)
A reminder that our LAST social gathering at Crispers is set for tomorrow night at 5:30. Hope to see some of you there.
We were lucky enough to find a lady from Brandon who digitized one of our logos for us. Her name is Tara and she is a member of the Piecemakers guild. She digitized our small logo (not the main one), but we can still use it that's for sure. She is just learning digitizing and did it for us for FREE as some good practice for herself. I thanked her profusely! I have the file and welcome any of you to use it if you like. It is in the Husqvarna format (vp3) but I know that most manufacturers have websites that will convert it for you, so hopefully you will be able to swap it over if you need to. If not, and you want something embroidered, than we can set that up for one of the sew days. There are several of us here with Husqvarna embroidery machines and we would be glad to help each other -- you just provide your own thread and stabilizer.
Don't forget that at the next meeting you are supposed to bring in your ugliest quilt.... don't give me any of that mess saying that you have never made an ugly quilt..... come on, we all have! I will bring one in that will surely get a good laugh when you see the binding.... LOL... or should I bring the one that came to pieces the first time it was washed? Boy oh boy do we live and learn! Its fun to be humble and share our mistakes with others though, so please participate!
Also, we are supposed to be bringing our name tags to the next meeting also. Did you pick up the one that I left for you at Fabric Warehouse? Hopefully you all did by now. Ive seen a few of the name tags and they look fantastic! Wait till you get a load of the prize for the coolest name tag, you are gonna want to participate in this one, folks! ;-)
This Friday, Nicolle is leading a car pool to do the Bay Area Shop Hop. It looks like a LOT of fun! Will be meeting at Fabric Warehouse at 10:00 am and heading out. There is a 30 minute per shop time limit in order to fit them all in -- so be ready for some serious ground covering! What a fun way to visit a lot of shops though! The passports are at Fabric warehouse and you pick up a kit at each shop and at the end, you will have all that you need to create a cool black and white quilt (am attaching a pic of the one that fabric Warehouse created).
So, as you all know, we are set to have a booth at the Lakeland Sewing Expo in March. We will be passing around a sign up sheet and encourage everyone to please sign up to help man the booth (that is the stipulation for us getting it for free, it has to be manned at all times). If you will sign up to take a 2-4 hour block of time, you will receive FREE entry into the Expo for that particular day, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy it. This is the PERFECT time to do some major fund-raising for our guild too - as thousands of people filter through this Expo every year! The officers are working on creating an "opportunity" quilt (see attached pic of the first block) and we would like to challenge the members to come up with an idea as well. Lets see what YOU can come up with to help bring in some funds for the guild! Any money that we raise will benefit us all, since its staying right here -- we can use it for programming or hiring educators or something FUN! So lets put our thinking caps on and come up with some super cool ideas! Lastly -- I did reach out to the Tampa and the Orlando MQG chapters and invited them to send literature or representatives from their guilds as well. After all, if someone is geographically closer to them, they wouldn't attend our meetings regularly anyway. So why not work together and help each other? We are all sister MQG's after all :)
How did you do on the BOM? Have you finished it? There's still time if not! Nicolle did a wonderful job with it (see attached pic). I can't wait to see what the rest of you came up with! Don't forget that if you bring in extra blocks, that your name will go into a drawing (one time per extra block you bring, so 4 extra blocks = 4 chances in the hat), to be drawn at the end of the year for a Fabric Warehouse gift certificate!
OH and who is ready to create the Tula Pink Pillow (me, me, me!)? Robin has agreed to teach this class for us and I cannot wait!!! Its on the January Sew Day, and she will be showing us an example and giving any instructions that we may need at the general meeting - so dont miss out!
I appreciate all of you and all of the energy that you bring to our guild. Thank you for helping it grow and for bringing lots of knowledge and friendship to it -- you are the best! :)
Stitch on... Leandra
