Crafti Gemini classes in Lakeland!
Our favorite YOUTUBE star will be making some stops in Lakeland and teaching some classes. You wont want to miss these! Vanessa is the President of the Gainesville Modern Quilt Guild as well as a well known blogger and youtube star - she has tutorials on everything from cooking to quilting to homeschooling! She is awesome! As someone who took one of her classes, I can attest that she makes them FUN as well as easy to follow! Here are her upcoming appearances in Lakeland at FABRIC WAREHOUSE.Call (863) 680-1325 to reserve your spot for one of these!
•September 5th @ 2-4:30 & 5-7:30: Mod Mushrooms Paper Pieced Block ($25- 2.5 hrs)- This class will be held TWICE on this date. Call to reserve your spot!
Description: Come learn the basics of foundation paper piecing with Vanessa, the Crafty Gemini. You'll practice on a simple block first before jumping into a more modern and funky mushroom block. Vanessa will share her tips and tricks for perfectly pieced blocks. The unfinished Mod Mushrooms block measures 10.5" x 10.5". All you need to bring are your fabric scraps (at least a few fat quarters and the rest can be smaller pieces about 8"x 8") and your usual quilting supplies. You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the shop's machines. All paper piecing templates and a PDF will be provided for you.
•September 6th @ 10-2: Halloween Spider Web Table Topper- ($40- 4 hrs)
Description: Make the perfect quilted table topper just in time for Halloween! This hexagon shaped table topper finishes about 20" x 22" and looks like a spiderweb so we top it off with a spider applique for the finishing touch. Supplies: Bring your usual quilting supplies and 1/4 yard of 6 or more different Halloween themed fabrics. For the batting bring at least a 25" square piece of batting and the same size backing fabric. For the binding bring 1/4 yard of any coordinating fabric you'd like to use for your binding. The fusible web and applique template will be provided for you. Bring a scrap piece of black fabric for your spider too! If you have one bring a long strip ruler (6.5" x 24" if possible) with a 60ยบ angle marked on it somewhere. This will make the prep work a lot easier for you. If you plan to hand sew the binding to the back side in class bring your hand sewing needle and thread as well.
•October 17th: Modern Quilting: Scoreboard Quilt Block & Pattern ($25- 2.5 hrs- 5:30pm-8pm)*This is a pattern that Vanessa had published in the May/June 2014 issue of Quilty Magazine!* I'll teach how to make the block and then the quilt is just a matter of making more of those blocks so they can do that at home once they learn how to make one.
Description: Learn how to create Vanessa's Scoreboard quilt block. The block and finished quilt were featured in the May/June 2014 issue of Quilty magazine. This block lends itself to pretty much any contrasting color combination and would look great as a scrappy quilt as well. Vanessa will bring the finished quilt for students to see how she put it all together including a pieced quilt backing and pieced/scrappy binding that was completely machine stitched into place. Learn about modern quilting techniques and elements while you learn how to create the Scoreboard block.
Supplies: Bring 1/2 yard each of two contrasting fabrics. Pattern for block and quilt will be provided for you. Bring some painter's tape or post it notes if you have. All other basic quilting supplies are necessary as well.
•October 18th: Quilt-As-You-Go Tablet Cover- ($35- 3 hrs, 2:00pm-5:00pm) An additional $8 (cash only) for supplies should be provided to instructor at the beginning of the class (if you do not have Bosal products needed.)
Description: Learn how to make a stylish quilt-as-you-go iPad/tablet cover! No matter what mobile device you use you will learn how to take the proper measurements and transfer that you your fabric to make a custom sleeve for it. No two sleeves will be the same. This is a very fun and improvisational piecing technique that you are sure to enjoy! These tablet covers make the best gift for anyone- male or female, child or adult! Vanessa will also teach you her preferred closure for the tablet sleeve that is super easy, and very secure. No buttons, zippers, or velcro!
Supplies: Four fat quarters (or more) for quilt-as-you-go outer cover. One fat quarter or 1/2 yard for lining. 1/4 yard for binding. The closure and foam interfacing will be provided for an additional $8 supply fee. Bring your basic quilting supplies and any binding clips if you have them.
